When is the lacrosse season?
The primary lacrosse season is in the spring, roughly February through May. We also run a secondary fall season, roughly August through October.
When is registration?
Registration for the spring season opens in November and continues until full on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is online only. Late registrations cost the league more because of uniform vendors’ order crunches as the season nears. Therefore, we offer an early registration discount.
When does spring practice start?
Practice typically starts in late February or early March, a decision made by each team’s coach. Some High School teams may start practice in January.
Can I purchase equipment locally?
Yes, Dick’s Sporting Goods in Jones Valley can provide all the equipment needed for both boys and girls. The most important aspect of the equipment is a comfortable fit for your child.
What equipment will my son need?
The most important fit item for boys is the helmet. Poorly fitting helmets can be extremely miserable, and can be a deal breaker for your son. We encourage families NOT to buy their son’s first helmet online. Please attempt to try on equipment before purchasing. Helmet comfort by brand & model tends to vary dramatically between kids.
Your son will need the following equipment:
- Helmet – Lacrosse specific
- Mouth Guard
- Shoulder Pads – Lacrosse specific
- Arm Pads – Lacrosse specific
- Gloves – Lacrosse specific
- Cup and Cup holder
- Lacrosse stick
- Light weight cleats, no steel, no baseball cleats
Gloves are the second most important fit item for boys. They help your son retain good control of the stick while protecting his hands.
For more details, please see our Equipment page.

Will there be travel for spring games?
Yes, there will be travel involved for spring (not fall) games. There will be approximately 4 or 5 trips to Birmingham or Chattanooga and one weekend tournament in Atlanta (younger teams) or Birmingham (older teams). Sometimes there will be multiple games per trip to maximize playing time for the associated travel time. Sometimes the Birmingham teams will meet us in Cullman. Typically teams will play 1/2 of the games at home, with the exception of the tournament weekends. Teams typically play 4 games at a tournament during a two day weekend.
What ages are the players ?
There are teams for boys in grades 1-12, and girls grades 4-12. Some of the middle school boys divisions have teams based in Huntsville, Madison or Hampton Cove.
